Savannah Terms The Savannah is a hybrid breed, combining African Serval and domestic cat. The Savannah is considered a Preliminary New Breed by TICA. This means they cannot earn titles, but they are shown to the judges as proto-types. The judges receive a standard and talk with the exhibitors about the strengths and weaknesses of the individual cat. It is our goal, as breeders, to produce a cat that maintains the look of the African Serval, while achieving a domestic personality. |

COAT Thumbprint or Ocelli - a light spot on the back of the ear.

||
In these photos you can see the Savannah's strong similarity to the African Serval, including the ocelli on the back of the large ears, the pattern of the coat and the contrast of the base color of the coat and the spotting. | |||
COLOR PATTERNS The Savannah comes in four colors: Black, Brown Spotted Tabby, Silver Spotted Tabby and Black Smoke. The pattern of the spotted tabbies should be a horizontal spotting, starting to follow the back at the shoulder, than dropping off. To the left is an actual African Serval, to the right is an F3 Savannah. Notice the similar pattern and coloring in the coat. Also note the ocelli on the back of the ears. Ear Dressing (Ear Tips) - long tufts of hair on the tips of the ears. HP - High Percentage of Wild (Serval) Blood. SV - Savannah |

F1, F2, F3, etc. refers to how many generations a cat is from a pure
"wild cat." In the case of the Savannah, it would be generations from
African Serval. A Savannah must be an F3 or beyond to be shown. F1s and F2s are not eligible for show. |
